Tour of Historic Marysville

Marysville was founded January 15, 1850 and named after Mary Murphy Covillaud, survivor of the ill-fated Donner Party. Take a walking tour under the arches through old historic Marysville, California’s Oldest Little City. See buildings that date back to the middle of the 19th century along with the commercial district of the gold rush. Did you know the Macys stores and Levis jeans started in Marysville? Among the houses still in Marysville today is the one owned by Stephen J. Fields, the first United States Supreme Court Justice west of the Mississippi River. Several Julia Morgan homes are also still standing in the city. Murals depict famous trail blazers and gentlemen bandits like James Beckworth and Black Bart. The bell in the church tower of St. John’s Episcopal Church was donated by Addie Ghirardelli. The Bok Kai Temple is home to one of the rarest Chinese murals still in existence.
