State Highway 20’s Meridian Bridge to Swing Open for Annual Inspection
MERIDIAN – Motorists traveling on State Highway 20 in Colusa and Sutter counties Thursday, April 2, can expect traffic delays at the Meridian Bridge during the morning hours, the Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today. The historic bridge is scheduled to swing open two to three separate times starting around 9 a.m. and continuing through approximately noon. Motorists should anticipate delays of up to 20 minutes during each opening while Caltrans crews conduct a routine bridge inspection.
Built in 1977 to replace an earlier bridge destroyed by fire, the swinging, turntable bridge is closed temporarily once a year for inspection.
Motorists are advised to find alternate routes during the closure, which is subject to change due to unexpected weather or other events. Electronic highway message boards will be used to post the latest information. To receive the latest information about traffic, community members can go to Twitter @D3PIO and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict 3. Motorists are reminded to "Be Work Zone Alert" and "Slow for the Cone Zone."
