The 57th annual Penn Valley Community Rodeo is Riding into town the week of May 12th thru the 18th starting with Rodeo week beginning on the 12th with local businesses vying for the Best Decorated Business Award. The idea is to be creative, humorous or serious; just adhere to a Western theme. The Penn Valley Rodeo National Anthem Singing Competition is at 5:30 in the rodeo arena.
Businesses who want to compete must turn in their application to the Penn Valley Chamber of Commerce by May 9th and the entrants for the singing competition need to be turned in by May 8th. The decorations must be ready by May 12th and the judging will be done the week of the 12th by the Rodeo Queens and Queen contestants.
Wednesday the 14th brings the Dinner to Honor our Sponsors and the Rodeo Queens Wine and Cheese Reunion from 6pm to 8pm at the rodeo grounds.
Thursday the May 15th is the Chamber Mixer from 5:30 to 7:30 where the winners for the best decorated business will be announced.
Friday the 16th starts the professional rodeo events in full swing with Rodeo Grounds gates opening at 5pm, a tasty Bar-b-que served up in the cook house, live music performed by The James Slack Band followed by the Rodeo Grand Entry at 7pm, Professional Rodeo and a dance to wrap up the evening.
Saturday May 17th the gates open at 9am for slack events, the Penn Valley Rodeo Parade will begin at 3 pm starting at Western Gateway Park and ending at the Rodeo Grounds, gates will be open and the Cook House will be serving up its famous Bar-b-que at 4 while the James Slack Band plays til 5:30 when the Grand Entry begins followed by the Professional Rodeo and the Dance.
Sunday @ 8:30 there is a breakfast in the Old Firehouse, Signups for the 2nd Annual Community Rodeo Play Day at 8:30, Cowboy Church at 9 am followed by the play day at 10:30 with free entry all day.
Many events such as Mutton Bustin will occur each day of the rodeo and the queen Coronation will take place on Friday. More information is available on the Penn Valley Rodeo Website : http://pvrodeo.com/index.htm including signups for a variety of events and advanced ticket purchasing.
