The longest day of the year has come and gone. Now we have to get ready for the heat. The tomatoes will like it. I’ll go kayaking.
Thursday, July 4th, is Independence Day! As always, we will all be celebrating with picnics, BBQ’s, beer, and fireworks. Please, remember that it is fire season and the grasses and forest are dry. Remain safe and sane with your fireworks. Let’s all get through our Independence Day celebrations without fires or auto accidents. Here’s to celebrating our American Independence.
The opening of the Farmer’s Market went well. We saw many people shopping for produce and other items. Several craft items looked interesting. Books & More had a booth selling Dollar Bargain Books. The Jazzercise group had a booth with demonstrations.
The first ice cream social at the Yuba Feather Museum went well, too. There were about 50 visitors that day, all wanting ice cream. Many thanks to Collins Lake for donating the ice cream; we all know how good their ice cream is when we make a quick stop there on the way home from town. Buck’s Store in Clipper Mills donated the root beer for floats. Both businesses helped the museum attract visitors. Sharonmarie Fisher entertained us with her original music. If you missed this event, there are two more scheduled this summer: July 21 and Aug. 18. You’ll enjoy it.
Don’t forget the Music and Arts Festival at the amphitheater all day this Saturday.
The hot weather is here and relaxing outside in the shade is called for. Did you know that you can create a wonderful backyard shade tent with an old sheet? Drape the sheet over a low-lying branch and tack down the corners with golf tees. Grab that book and glass of ice tea and kick back in the shade.
Look Back in Time – In 1904 the hotels at Clipper Mills and Woodleaf were filled with summer tourists, enjoying the hunting, fishing, and reading. (Now we can stay in the Brownsville motel. We use it for overflow company.)
Hope to see you in Brownsville soon. Christine and Yvonne
