If your plans are Lake Almanor we suggest fishing the east basin for trout and if you want bass we say hit the west basin. If you troll for trout go down 20 feet.
We hear stories about Striped Bass. Some of the input we receive say the stripers are still in the system and you can have a ball fishing flies up near Red Bluff in the Sacramento River. Downstream they are taking fish in and around Sacramento. Apparently, the bank anglers are the ones scoring big.
The Mack bite up at Lake Tahoe has slowed along with brown trout, but anglers are still getting fish. This time of year the kokanee start becoming active and the bite should be on and excellent in the coming weeks.
Congratulations goes out to little Desi Backala, while fishing with her pink pole and pink shirt caught a beautiful rainbow trout…yep, using pink power bait, while fishing with family at Collins Lake. In addition, reports tell us the fishing is great all over the reservoir at this writing. Apparently the schools of fish, both trout, bass and catfish have spread out all over the lake.
We hear from our weather guy. He says to expect record high temperatures as soon as the current cool spell passes, which he predicts will be over by Thursday (June 27th). Furthermore, he has advised to expect triple digits into July and so on. When asked if he thought this was due to Global Warming he chuckled and replied, “Hell no, this is just a normal summer, with a normal year. ”
We have no reports of fish plants in the northern state at this time. Perhaps all the fish have been released in streams, ponds, lakes and rivers. However, it appears the fish hatchery at Oroville is overwhelmed with salmon, so much that they are killing a bunch of fish and giving them away…….we will check this out and report next week.
Take a youngster along on one of your fishing adventures. As we have said time and time again….these boys and girls are the future of the sport.
