Competitive Girls Volleyball Comes to Marysville

By: Amanda Brown, NorCal Rush Coach

The NorCal Rush Volleyball Club is a non-profit amateur competitive volleyball club for girls ages 9-18 in the Yuba-Sutter area which focuses on keeping club volleyball affordable and fun yet still maintaining the highest competition standards.
Having begun its second season in January, NorCal Rush is operating in a fabulous new building, dubbed The Clubhouse.  The members held the grand opening on March 1st.  The Club House consists of four volleyball courts, a weight room, a video playback room, a coach’s lounge and an office as well as the NorCal Marketplace which sells Rush merchandise, general volleyball necessities, and snacks.
According to Rush Director Stephanie Helms, “Having this facility has taken NorCal Rush to the next level.  We are no longer tied down to the schedules of the local high schools or fighting for gym time with other clubs, and we are now able to practice multiple times per week.  Rush is becoming the premier volleyball club that I envisioned last year.”
This season Rush is serving 60 volleyball players on five volleyball teams from local high schools including Marysville, Lindhurst, River Valley, Yuba City, Sutter, Faith Christian, CORE Academy, and Wheatland as well as their feeder schools.  All teams are off to a great start competing in tournaments at Jackson Sports Academy in Sacramento as well as with the Northern California Volleyball Association out of Sacramento, San Jose, San Mateo, and Reno
Aside from the NorCal Rush teams competing in tournaments, they have been serving as hosts for the Northern California Volleyball Association tournaments on the weekends.  On any given weekend hundreds of teenage volleyball players and their families come to Marysville for tournaments.  These out-of-town families stay in local hotels, visit local coffee shops, and eat in local restaurants.  The NorCal Rush Volleyball Club is bringing people and money into the Yuba-Sutter area.
On Friday, June 7th NorCal Rush plans to host its first benefit dinner.  The goal is to raise funds to maintain this extraordinary facility, to keep the players fees as low as possible, and to purchase more state of the art volleyball training equipment.  The dinner will include a delicious meal, open bar, dessert, and entertainment as well as a silent auction and raffle.  Tickets are available by contacting Amanda Brown at Amanda@norcalrush.org.  Ticket prices are $60.00 for an individual or $100.00 for a couple.  The Club needs more donated items and services for the silent auction.  Please help support the youth of the Yuba-Sutter area by purchasing a dinner ticket, donating a silent auction item or service, and/or simply cheering for the players in their next tournament.
