News From the Brownsville Bailiwick & Beyond

Stay on your toes today; it is April Fool’s Day. Teachers are especially vulnerable! Those kids just love to fool a teacher. Playing a good joke is always fun, but please be careful that it is not harmful or hurtful. Have a Happy April Fool’s Day and we hope it will be a day full of laughs and fun.

Please put May 2 & 3 on your calendar so you can enjoy Vintage Tractor Days at Alcouffe Community Center. This family fun event is being held for the 11th year and is Northern California’s largest vintage tractor show. Lots of fun to be had.

You are invited to a Kid’s Easter Celebration on Saturday, April 4, at Loma Rica Community Church, 11234 Loma Rica Rd, from 11am to 2 pm. There will be an egg hunt, jump house, cake walk, carnival games and much more. All of the activities are free for children aged pre-school through 5th grade.

We’re not in our longest drought, but still the lack of water is a real concern. Our local lakes are in better shape than many other lakes in California. Save what water you can and be glad you are not a valley farmer. We all need to be especially careful with fire this summer.

We are sorry to report that the new business that was planned to fill the old WeeBee’s is not happening. The young couple who had hoped to open last month decided to open a business elsewhere. It is very difficult to keep a business going locally. However, is you or someone you know want to give it a try, the location is great.

A new local group was started last month. Some senior gals meet once a week to discuss issues related to aging. In March we were visited by Dr. Blanchard, Sutter North’s Home Health and Hospice leader. It was very interesting, giving us many new facts and things to think about. We meet on Thursday afternoons. If you are interested call Books & More for details(675-3275).

Look Back in Time – In 1925 work was progressing at Beever Resort below Brownsville. A 15 room hotel, 50 cottages, a swimming pool, golf course and dance hall were being built. (this meadow was not named for the animal, beaver, but for the family who owned the meadow)

Hope to see you in Brownsville soon. Christine and Yvonne
