Fishin' Talk

By Boots Johnson

We hear from Lake Berryessa…..The east side flats and the north end have been putting out some nice bass ranging up to ten pounds Most, however are in the two to four pound size. The fish are hitting on just about anything thrown their way due to them being in their springtime spawn mode.

The big brown trout in Lake Almanor have begun to move into the shallows looking for food. The browns have been hitting silver or black rapala lures. This bite is one of the best of the year in this reservoir and it is just getting started.

Jackson Meadows Reservoir near Truckee is almost full at 96 percent. There is still snow up there and ice on the boat ramp. We have no report of fishing success at this time.

All those fish planted in Collins Lake are making lots of anglers happy. Trout are being taken by shore anglers as well as boats trolling.

Some nice rainbows up to seventeen inches have been caught at Englebright Reservoir above Smartsville. Best bet it to fish around the houseboats or at the buoy line by the dam.

Lake Oroville is finally half full and the bass are on the bite. Fish are being caught from shore and by trolling or jigging. Small bass were all over the shallows with the larger bass being found in 30 to 40 feet of water.

That world record spotted bass caught a couple weeks ago at Bullard’s Bar Reservoir has caused lots of boat traffic along with waiting lines at the ramps. Fish are being taken against walls and along points.

Sturgeon is being caught in the Sacramento River. Reports tell us the fish have been caught all the way up from the Delta to Meridian with stripers showing up along the way.

We have additional information on the Striper Derby at Lovey’s Landing near Meridian on April 25th. The Derby tickets are $10.00 each. One ticket is needed to enter any one fish. Tickets are available at Lovey’s anytime up to 10 P.M. April 24th.
