Chappie
Starring: Sharlto Copley,
Dev Patel, and Hugh Jackman
Rated: R Runtime: 120 min
Chappie, is set in the near future where robots are given artificial intelligence and taking the place of human police officers. The creator of the robots brain and programming takes his work to the next level to develop a truly sentient being.
The story is interesting and is almost thoughtful, however the amount of thugery in this movie pounds any value the story may have into the dust. The acting is fair and may actually be really good, but it is trapped in a mindset that I can not wrap my thinking around. The action is really good. The effects are well done and to my surprise no shaky cam.
Chappie, earns two out of five, Hope Crushing Monkeys. There is not one character in this movie that isn’t completely self serving. There is not a moment of shared decency in the film. It is a soul crushing vision of humanity and leaves you with a bleak feeling for the future of mankind in this world.
It is best to wait for this film to come out on video and even then I would wait until your friend buys it from the five dollar movie bin then borrow it from them.
