News From the Brownsville Bailiwick & Beyond

On May 3 -4 is the 10th Annual Vintage Tractor Days in Oregon House at the Alcouffe Community Center on Marysville. There will be free hay rides, a bounce house, food and beverages available. Many events that are fun to watch as well as some interesting tractors to see will make this a great day. This event will open at 9 am each day. There is no admission charge but they are asking $5.00 for parking.

Thursday, May 1st in the National Day of Prayer. Please be sure to remember our servicemen, our nations leaders, all those in times of trouble, etc. We all need prayers!!

Did you see the eclipse of the moon? It was pretty unusual with the Blood Moon. It will happen again in October. This week is the new moon on April 29. Our ancestors were much more aware of celestial “happenings” as they affected their lives more.

The Study Group that meets at the book store on Wednesdays at 1:30 has “lost” a couple of members. Perhaps you might be interested in joining the group. We all choose one book that we read and discuss portions of each week. We have chosen some pretty interesting books, both fiction and non-fiction: A Stroke of Insight (Jill Bolte Taylor), On The Road (Kerouac), two books by Eckhart Tolle and more. If you are interested, please stop by the book store or call 675-3275.

Don’t forget the Mexican Dinner held at the Ponderosa Community Center on Saturday, May 3. This would a good way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Should be a pretty tasty meal with margaritas, food and fun.

Annie Ruth’s is currently busy planning their fabulous Mother’s Day Celebration. Mark your calendars now and bring mom to enjoy a delicious meal. Watch for all of the details in the next Bailiwick column. See you there!!

If you have an event that you would like mentioned in the Bailiwick, it has to be sent to Christine or Yvonne with plenty of notice (at least 2 weeks). Either send a flyer to yvonnescroggs1937@gmail, phone the book store, or give the information to one of us.

A Look Back in Time – In 1908 a rich gold strike at the Solano Wonder Mine in Brownsville has assayed at $22,500 to a ton of ore. (Wonder just where that mine was; perhaps one could find out at the museum this summer.)

Hope to see you in Brownsville soon. Christine and Yvonne
