Whatta fun group!!!

Besides singing their hearts out, local barbershop singers really know how to have fun. On Tuesday, they had an intra-chapter event, with over 6 chapters participating at their annual “bean feed” and “somewhat serious” quartet contest- which included a dinner of hot dogs, beans, chips and various beverages, followed by the men forming 21 random quartets, then having a friendly competition.
The event was hosted by our Auburn-based barbershop singing group, the Sierranaders, at Auburn’s DeWitt Senior center, with around 100 folks attending. Judges for the event were “First Strike” a medalist quartet from the bay area.

Of the spontaneous quartets, one had four tenors, starting out with all them singing tenor, and then switching to their beloved 4-part harmony that is the trade-mark of barbershop singing. Another quartet had extreme differences in experience… ranging from 60 years to 60 days. Medals received were mason lids with fancy ribbons.

Then… the following weekend, some from the harmonious group did a camp-out up at South Lake Tahoe, again with multiple chapters participating. Around 50 participated in this event, with the group forming eight quartets, a ukulele duet, and a chorus, all to produce a free, fun, show for those at the campground.

Upcoming events include singing at the Nevada County fair, and having a swim party and BBQ at a member’s home.

Any men that love to sing are invited and encouraged to join in our fellowship- singing great songs, getting free coaching, and doing fun activities. Contact Cliff Johnson at 530-346-2757, or visit website www.sierranaders.org
