Pet of The Week: Avery

This week Yuba County Animal Care Services would like to introduce you to a very special dog. Meet Avery (A134177), a beautiful white Boxer American Bulldog mix. This four year old beauty is full of energy and loves everyone she meets. Avery has yet to find a toy she doesn’t like. Once you throw that toy she will chase it down, pick it up, toss it in the air, and be ready to do it all over again. She walks well on leash and is eager to please. Now, what do you ask makes Avery so special? Avery
is deaf…but that does not mean she is not an adoptable pet. Deaf dogs can make wonderful pets and family members. Deaf dogs bark and make all the regular sounds their hearing counterparts make.

They can be taught sign language commands and are fully trainable. The only real issue when adopting a deaf animal is that they should never be allowed to roam freely outdoors unless it is in a securely fenced enclosure, since they cannot hear cars or other dangers approaching. Avery has lots of love and energy to give to the right family. Please stop by and see her. Yuba County Animal Care Services is at 5245 Feather River Blvd., in Olivehurst, 530-741-6478. Shelter hours are Monday – Friday 8:30– 3:30 (Kennel hours are 10 – 3:30) and Saturdays 10 – 2. You can see all our adoptable animals or look for your lost pet on the web at www.petharbor.com or www.petfinder.com.
