Quincy, CA---The Plumas National Forest, working in conjunction with the California Department of Boating and Waterways, is resuming work improving boat ramp areas at Antelope Lake and Lake Davis this spring.
Lake Davis
Work will begin in early April for Honker Cove Boat Ramp in the Lake Davis Recreation Area. An alternate boat ramp location has been set up at Lake Davis: Camp 5 Boat Ramp will be available to the public beginning April 15th.
Honker and Mallard Cove Boat Ramps will be closed until the contractor has completed their work. This project includes the replacement and expansion of the boat ramp, an accessible trail to the ramp and the installation of root wads to improve fish habitat.
Antelope Lake
Work will also resume on the Lost Cove Boat Ramp and Day Use Area in the Antelope Recreation Area. In the interim, boulders at Lunker Landing will be moved to allow for a temporary boat launch site until May 31 when Lost Cove Boat Launch is scheduled to re-open. The May 31 date is dependent on weather conditions; visitors should call ahead to confirm the ramp is open.
Enhancements to this area began last fall, but were stalled due to early freezing temperatures and inclement winter weather. Enhancements include extending the boat ramp, resurfacing both the parking area and boat launch, and re-striping the parking area to accommodate 20 to 25 trailer spaces as well as additional overflow trailer parking
.
Other improvements include two additional accessible parking spaces with a paved pathway leading directly to the top of the boat ramp, three additional picnic sites with new tables, shade structures and paved access; one of the added picnic sites will have accessible features. A newly constructed, universally accessible, restroom will be located in the lower parking lot to allow direct access from the new accessible parking spots.
