UNEMPLOYMENT UP –Yuba/Sutter’s unemployment rate took another seasonal rise in January, up over a point, at 18 percent. But it is down a point and a half from a year ago, with 600 more farmworkers still employed and 400 more jobs in the professional and business services sector. Only two counties had higher rates than Sutter, which ranked 56th. Yuba County ranked 50th. Colusa County had the highest rate in California.
LEVEE’S APPROVED FOR FUNDING – Yuba/ Sutter levee improvement projects are among those
approved for state bond funding by a Senate budget subcommittee. Local State Senator Jim Nielsen
is a member. The subcommittee approved 12 point, 4 million dollars for the Marysville ring levee
reconstruction project, 645,000 for the Yuba River Basin project, and one point 3 million dollars for
the Sutter Basin feasibility study. The majority of the funding comes from Proposition One-E, approved by voters in 2006.
