This coming weekend will be a big one for the Dobbins-Oregon
House area. The North Yuba Harvest Festival will be under way at the Alcouffe
Community Center on Sept. 29 – 30 from 10 am to 4 pm. They are featuring
premier foods, wines, and olive oils for your tasting pleasure. Of course they
will be for sale, too. There will be booths featuring arts and crafts, foods,
fresh produce, antiques and collectibles as well as books written by local
authors. You will be entertained by live music during the day. For the children
a giant bounce house and other activities will be available. Entry is free with
a $5 suggested donation for parking. For more information you can check out
these sites: www.alcouffecenter.org
or www.northyubawine.com.
The
trees in “Downtown” Brownsville are beginning to change color. That corridor of
Liquid Amber (also known as sweetgum) will be blazing with color before you
know it. We wonder how Jean and Marty Bettin are doing in Colorado; we wish
them the best. We see that the pastiche closest to the road is starting to
color. It would be worth a drive up the hill to see the maple at Clipper Mills
and some of the other deciduous trees as they change into their fall apparel.
Another
dinner date to put on your calendar is October 6. An Italian Dinner will be put
on by Yuba Feather Community Services featuring pork and veggie lasagna, salad,
and apple crostata ala mode. Doesn’t that sound good? It will be held at
Ponderosa Community Center. There will be a cash bar with wine Italian
cocktails, coffee, tea, juice and water. A raffle will follow dinner. Dinner
starts at 5 pm; $12 for adults, kids 6 – 11 years $6. For more information call
675-2930 or 301-6440. Hope to see you there.
We
are happy to know that Ray Fowler is back home. Anyone who has been in the
hospital, as positive an atmosphere as it can be, is still very glad to be back
home. We hope he is feeling stronger each day and look forward to seeing the Wally Gumper wagon in Brownsville.
Debbie
Scarberry says that the John Murphy Barbeque Dinner went very well. Money was
made to add to the scholarship fund. Butler did a great job at auctioneer; there
were many fabulous baskets at the silent auction. It is great to see a
community together to support a worthy cause and still have fun.
Friday,
September 28th is National Good Neighbor Day. Be sure to give your
neighbors a big hello and if you have a neighbor you haven’t met as of yet,
reach out and you might make a new friend. Maybe check in on a housebound
neighbor or offer assistance to someone who is in need. The rewards can be
bountiful.
Hope
to see you in Brownsville soon. Christine
and Yvonne
