Critic's Corner

Evil Dead
Starring: Jane Levy,
Shiloh Fernandez, and Lou Taylor Pucci
Rated: R Runtime: 91 min

Evil Dead, is the story of a book bound in human flesh and written in an ancient alphabet that can be deciphered by high school teachers. The first thing to do when finding the book and reading warnings of “do not speak the words” is to speak the words. Well we can all guess what happens next. Pain, mutilation, a sense of powerlessness that saddens the spirit and lots of brutal painful death.
The story is vague bowing out to the gruesome visual effects that are very well done and the acting is as vague as the story. However the acting and the story pick up at the end and make this a decent scary movie. The makers do their best not to insult the audience. Which is appreciated.
Evil Dead, earns three out of five, Bent Finger Monkeys. If you are a horror fan then you should like this film. For those of you that often find yourself making bad decisions take your three and four year old kids to see this. There is no way it will give them nightmares and make them afraid of Needles, nail guns, mirrors, toilets, electric knives, steps, cabins, trees, vines, rain, hammers, crowbars, and chainsaws. Apparently “Evil Dead” and “Croods’ look the same to some folks. I hope that this movie is all the child hood trauma those kids have to deal with, but somehow I doubt it. So go see it and have fun being grossed out and for the love of anything that does not come out of a skin covered book, take the kids to see The Croods.
